«Snow Queen», Kamanina, papier-mâché, tempera, Palekh, 2016

Magnificent filigree art work made by one of the best artists of Palekh. The miniatures of this school are characterized by scenes from folklore and literary works, songs and bylinas. The world-famous fairy tale “The Snow Queen” became the main plot of this exclusive box. With the help of  the tiniest brushes and tempera silver paints, the artist managed to depict absolutely incredible iridescent shades of silhouettes and the smallest details. The box seems to convey the atmosphere of cold and the mesmerizing beauty of ice and snow.

The ornament is applied with a prepared gold leaf, which gives the work uniqueness and originality.

Since XVII Palekh, situated in Vladimir province, was known as a center of Russian icon painting. Years ago icons from Palekh were as famous as modern lacquered boxes now. Works by Palekh artists can be found in numerous museums of Russia and abroad. The State Palekh Art Museum in Palekh boasts the biggest miniature collection, with over two thousand works.
