«Troika» Kontsov V., papier-mâché, tempera, Palekh, 2003

One of the most classical interpretations of Russian troika in lacquer miniature art. Such colours and composition are very typical for Palekh school. The Palekh miniatures usually represent characters from real life, literary works, fairy tales, bylinas and songs. Traditionally, they are painted with local bright paints over the black background and are known for their delicate and smooth design, abundance of golden shading, and accurate silhouettes of flattened figures. Accent colours are always red and bright.

The school appeared on the base of icon painting. During the time it was transformed into a great and world famous type of art.
