«Saint-Petersburg» Petrova V, papier-maché, tempera, Kholui

An unusually bright artwork with the depiction of Saint-Petersburg attractions. Artists of the Kholui school often paint cityscapes, architectural monuments and attractions. This amazing box has the depictions of Saint Isaac’s Cathedral, the Hermitage Museum, Mikhailovskiy castle, Rostral Columns and monument for Peter the Great «The Bronze Horseman».

The box is painted with egg tempera and cherry resin for perfect gloss. The recipe of mixing the paints came to us from the old times. All the stages of creation are hand made and keep a piece of Russian soul.

Kholui is the youngest center of lacquer miniature painting. The artists depict various subjects from fairy-tales to literary works.
